COVID-19 Case Detected In Odisha’s Ganjam; Patient Admitted To MKCG Medical College

Odisha reported a fresh COVID-19 case on Wednesday after one person tested positive for the virus in Ganjam district, prompting health authorities to closely monitor the situation.

According to reports, the infected individual has been admitted to Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. However, officials have not yet released details regarding the patient’s age, travel history, symptoms, or current health condition.

The fresh case has drawn attention as neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has also been reporting COVID-19 infections in recent weeks, prompting authorities in border districts to remain vigilant.

Health Authorities Monitoring Situation

While confirming the case, officials have not disclosed the source of infection or whether the patient had any recent travel history or contact with confirmed COVID-19 cases. Health authorities are expected to carry out contact tracing and other precautionary measures, if required, to prevent any further spread of the virus.

Earlier, the Ganjam district administration had directed government hospitals and Community Health Centres (CHCs) to remain on high alert following the rise in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Hospitals were instructed to conduct mandatory COVID-19 testing for all Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) patients and ensure that at least 5 per cent of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) cases undergo COVID-19 testing. Medical facilities were also asked to keep isolation wards, oxygen-supported beds, oxygen supplies and emergency equipment ready.

In addition, ASHA and ANM workers have been carrying out village-level surveillance to identify individuals with fever or respiratory symptoms while creating public awareness about preventive measures.

Further Information Awaited

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement providing more details about the patient’s condition, treatment, or any additional public health measures being taken. Officials have stated that the situation is under close observation, and further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, maintain good hygiene practices, and follow health advisories issued by the government, particularly if they experience symptoms of respiratory illness.
