The Odisha government has finalised a comprehensive transport and security framework to ensure the safe and smooth movement of millions of devotees during the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri.
Reviewing the preparations, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said providing hassle-free travel for pilgrims arriving from across Odisha and other states remains the administration’s top priority. He also warned that even the slightest negligence in public services would not be tolerated.
Traffic Management Measures
To manage the expected surge in pilgrim traffic, the Transport Department is coordinating closely with the district administration and police. Special emphasis has been placed on road safety, traffic regulation, and crowd management along the busy Bhubaneswar–Puri National Highway.
The government will significantly increase the number of public buses operating on the route. Authorities have also warned private transport operators against overcharging passengers or violating government-approved fare rates, stating that strict action will be taken against offenders.
Enhanced Transport & Assistance Services
To improve commuter convenience and minimise congestion, the government has introduced several support services along the pilgrimage route.
Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said, “From Malatipatapur to Sterling Chhak, we have arranged free autorickshaw services. We have also arranged shuttle bus services, a 24/7 help desk, and cranes, among other services. People can also avail breakdown services; companies like Ashok Leyland, Tata, Maruti, and Honda have been requested for their assistance. Extensive enforcement has also been arranged.”
The extensive arrangements are aimed at ensuring a safe, efficient, and seamless travel experience for devotees attending one of Odisha’s largest religious festivals.
