Odisha Gets Road Infrastructure Boost with Projects Worth ₹1,191 Crore

Odisha’s road and transport infrastructure has received a significant boost with the inauguration and foundation laying of projects worth ₹1,191 crore. The projects were unveiled on June 20 during a high-profile event at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The infrastructure initiatives are expected to improve road connectivity, reduce travel time, strengthen regional transportation networks and support economic growth across multiple districts of the state.

Nine Projects Dedicated to the Public

As part of the programme, nine completed projects were inaugurated and dedicated to the people of Odisha.

Four National Highway Projects Worth ₹536.88 Crore

The newly inaugurated National Highway projects include:

  • Nayagarh Bypass on NH-57
  • Rigdol–Belgaon stretch on NH-59
  • Reamal Bypass on NH-53
  • Kotpad Bypass on NH-63

These projects are expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and facilitate smoother movement of passengers and freight vehicles across key corridors.

Five Road and Bridge Projects Worth ₹274.98 Crore

The government also inaugurated five major road and bridge projects aimed at strengthening district-level connectivity:

  • Taladanda Canal Right Embankment Road in Cuttack district
  • Ichhapur–Basudevpur Road in Bhadrak district
  • Dhenkanal–Kaimati–Joranda Road in Dhenkanal district
  • Bijepur–Dublabahal Road in Bargarh district
  • Deobandha–Chandahandi via Fatki Road in Nabarangapur district

These projects are expected to improve rural and semi-urban connectivity while enhancing access to markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities.

Foundation Stones Laid for Three New Projects

In addition to the inaugurated projects, foundation stones were laid for three major infrastructure works worth ₹379.84 crore:

  • Kathajodi High-Level Bridge in Cuttack
  • Dhalpur–Harabhanga Road in Boudh district
  • Widening of the Nuapada–Ghatipada section of NH-353

The proposed projects are expected to further strengthen Odisha’s transportation network and support future economic development.

Focus on Connectivity and Development

The latest investments underline the government’s focus on expanding highway infrastructure, improving inter-district connectivity and creating better transport facilities across Odisha. Improved road networks are expected to boost trade, tourism, logistics and overall regional development while providing safer and faster travel for commuters.
