Odisha’s Dhenkanal Exports First Consignment Of Amrapali Mangoes To London This Season

In a major boost to Odisha’s horticulture sector, three tonnes of Amrapali mangoes from Dhenkanal district have been exported to London as the first international consignment of the ongoing mango season.

The export marks a significant milestone for mango growers in the region and highlights the growing international demand for Odisha’s premium horticultural produce.

Institutional Support Boosts Mango Export

According to an official statement, the export initiative was carried out under the guidance and support of the Directorate of Horticulture under Odisha’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE).

The shipment was managed by several farmer-led organisations, including:

  • Madanamohan Farmer Producer Cooperative Society Ltd
  • DKL Innovative Farmer Producer Company Ltd (FPCL)
  • Kankadahad FPCL

The successful export reflects increasing efforts to connect Odisha’s farmers directly with global markets.

Export Initiative Supported By Multiple Agencies

The export process was facilitated by Palladium, the implementing partner for the PSFPO (Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations) project under the DA&FE Department.

The initiative also received support from organisations including:

  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • APEDA

Officials stated that coordinated institutional support and export-oriented planning played a crucial role in the successful shipment.

Farmers Receive Better Price Realisation

Authorities said the export initiative led to nearly 72 per cent improvement in farmer price realisation compared to conventional local market sales.

The improvement was attributed to several pre-season interventions focused on:

  • Farmer preparedness
  • Quality control
  • Export packaging
  • Institutional strengthening
  • Market linkage development

These measures helped farmers meet international standards and secure better returns for their produce.

Focus On Long-Term Export Growth

APEDA Regional Head Sitakanta Mandal stressed the importance of capacity building for sustainable export growth.

According to the statement, Mandal said training and awareness programmes help Farmer Producer Companies better understand export market requirements and engage effectively with international buyers.

He further emphasised that continuous learning, quality assurance and institutional preparedness are essential for establishing long-term credibility in global markets.

Boost For Odisha’s Horticulture Sector

The successful export of Amrapali mangoes from Dhenkanal is being seen as a major achievement for Odisha’s agriculture and horticulture sector.

Officials described the initiative as an example of effective coordination between government departments, farmer organisations and partner institutions working together to create better income opportunities for farmers through international trade.
