Malkangiri: In a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting economically weaker families, as many as 17 couples entered into wedlock through a mass marriage ceremony conducted with traditional Vedic rituals. The event marked a new beginning for the couples, who received financial and social support under a government welfare scheme.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including District Collector Prathamesh Arvind Rajshirkhe, Malkangiri MLA Narsingha Madkami, and Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khila, who extended their blessings to the newlyweds and appreciated the initiative.
Addressing the gathering, the District Collector emphasized that such schemes provide much-needed relief to families who struggle to bear the high costs of marriage. He noted that beyond financial assistance, the program ensures legal security for couples by providing official marriage registration certificates, thereby strengthening their social standing.
MLA Narsingha Madkami lauded the initiative, stating that it empowers daughters from underprivileged backgrounds to begin married life with dignity and confidence. Echoing similar sentiments, MLA Mangu Khila highlighted that mass marriage programs play a crucial role in discouraging social evils like the dowry system and promoting equality in society.
As part of the scheme, each bride was provided with financial assistance of ₹45,000, along with a marriage certificate and a fruit-bearing sapling, symbolizing growth and prosperity in their new lives.
The event witnessed the presence of several senior officials, including Additional District Magistrates Somnath Pradhan and Vedabar Pradhan, CDO-cum-EO Dasarath Sarabu, and Deputy Collector Duryodhan Bhoi. District Social Welfare Officer Gouri Nayak oversaw the arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony.
The successful yojna was made possible with the collective efforts of district officials, social welfare staff, and voluntary organisations, reflecting a strong commitment towards inclusive development and social welfare.
The mass marriage program stands as a significant step towards reducing financial burdens on poor families while fostering a more equitable and progressive society.
