Akshaya Tritiya Celebrated Across Odisha with Devotion, Rituals and Agrarian Traditions

Bhubaneswar: The auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya is being celebrated with deep religious fervour and cultural enthusiasm across Odisha, marking a day believed to bring prosperity, success, and good fortune for any new beginning.

Farmers Mark Agricultural Beginning

A key highlight of the day is the traditional ritual of Akhi Muthi Anukula, observed by farmers across the state. The ceremony symbolises the beginning of the agricultural season, with farmers sowing seeds in their fields while seeking divine blessings for a bountiful harvest.

Due to its strong association with farming, Akshaya Tritiya is widely regarded as a farmers’ festival in Odisha, holding special significance in rural communities.

Rath Yatra Preparations Begin

The festival also carries immense religious importance in the state’s Jagannath tradition. On this day, construction of the chariots for the annual Rath Yatra begins in Puri, marking the start of preparations for one of India’s largest religious events.

Millions of devotees from across the country and abroad participate in the Rath Yatra every year, making this ritual a significant milestone in the festival calendar.

Chapa Khela at Narendra Pushkarini

Adding to the celebrations, the deities of Lord Jagannath take part in the traditional Chapa Khela (boating festival) at Narendra Pushkarini. The ritual draws large crowds of devotees and tourists, reflecting the vibrant spiritual culture of the region.

Security and Arrangements in Place

Authorities, including the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of rituals and effective crowd management.

Police have also implemented comprehensive security measures, including deployment of personnel, traffic regulation, and surveillance, to handle the large influx of devotees.

A Festival of Faith and Prosperity

Akshaya Tritiya continues to embody Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, deep-rooted spiritual traditions, and agrarian identity. The festival brings communities together in prayer and hope for prosperity, reinforcing the enduring bond between faith, nature, and livelihood.
