IMD Forecasts Rain and Strong Winds in Parts of Maharashtra; Yellow Alert Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a spell of rain accompanied by strong winds in several regions of Maharashtra over the next two days, offering possible relief as the state continues to experience above-normal temperatures for this time of the year.

Officials at the IMD’s Pune Observatory said the changing weather pattern is being influenced by a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining Chhattisgarh, along with a trough line extending through Vidarbha. These systems are expected to trigger isolated rainfall and gusty winds across parts of the state.

Rain Likely in Vidarbha and Marathwada

According to the forecast, the weather is likely to remain mostly dry across the state for the next three days. However, isolated thundershowers are expected in Marathwada and Vidarbha on March 13 and 14. Parts of South Madhya Maharashtra may also experience scattered thundershowers on March 14.

In the Vidarbha region, light to moderate rainfall is likely at isolated locations in Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts on March 13 and 14. Additional districts including Nagpur, Wardha and Gadchiroli may also receive rainfall on March 14.

In view of the expected weather activity, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for these districts, cautioning residents about possible strong winds and advising them to remain alert.

Temperature Trends Across the State

The IMD said the maximum temperature in the Konkan region is likely to remain largely unchanged over the next two days before dropping gradually by around two to three degrees Celsius.

In interior areas of Madhya Maharashtra, no significant change in daytime temperatures is expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, Vidarbha is likely to witness stable temperatures for the next three days, followed by a decrease of about two to four degrees Celsius.

Heatwave and Humidity Alerts

The weather department has also warned of possible heatwave conditions in Akola district on March 11. At the same time, hot and humid weather conditions are expected in parts of the coastal belt including Palghar, Raigad, Thane and Mumbai, where a yellow alert has been issued.

In Pune and surrounding areas, the sky is expected to remain mostly clear, although partly cloudy conditions may develop during the afternoon hours.

Meteorologists say the upcoming rainfall could provide temporary relief from rising temperatures, but residents in affected districts are advised to stay cautious due to the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds.
