DPL 2025 Auction Highlights: Sehwag’s Son, Kohli’s Nephew Picked; Simarjeet Singh Emerges as Costliest Buy

New Delhi, July 6: The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction turned into a family affair of cricket royalty as Aaryavir Sehwag, son of legendary opener Virender Sehwag, and Aryaveer, nephew of batting maestro Virat Kohli, were snapped up by franchises amid spirited bidding.

At just 18 years old, Aaryavir Sehwag, a powerful top-order batter like his father, was picked for a notable Rs 8 lakh by Central Delhi Kings. The youngster currently features in the Delhi Under-19 setup and drew a fierce bidding war before Central Delhi secured him.

In a twist of coincidence, Kohli’s nephew, Aryaveer, a promising leg-spinner, was bought by South Delhi Superstarz for Rs 1 lakh. The 2024 DPL runners-up are set to be captained by Delhi Ranji Trophy skipper and LSG player Ayush Badoni, adding depth and leadership to the squad.

The biggest headline, however, came from the marquee buy of the season. Pacer Simarjeet Singh was the costliest player at the DPL 2025 auction, with Central Delhi Kings shelling out Rs 39 lakh to sign him. Close behind was mystery spinner Digvesh Singh, who was acquired by South Delhi Superstarz for Rs 38 lakh, further strengthening their bowling attack.

Meanwhile, Purani Dilli 6, the 2024 semi-finalists, made waves ahead of the auction by retaining star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as their marquee player. Pant’s leadership and form were central to the team’s performance last year, which saw them advance to the semi-finals before rain washed out their campaign.

Pant shared his enthusiasm for the league and its growing role in nurturing Indian cricket talent:

“The DPL serves as an excellent platform for young talent to showcase their skills. Credit to Rohan Jaitley and DDCA for the consistent efforts in running the league successfully. Players like Digvesh Rathi and Priyansh Arya have benefitted immensely from these opportunities.”

On Purani Dilli 6’s upcoming campaign, Pant added:

“It feels like home, with the passionate support of Delhi fans. We were close last season, and the hunger to win has only grown. We aim to return even stronger this year.”

The DPL 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster edition, with a mix of emerging stars, cricketing legacies, and experienced names all set to light up Delhi’s cricketing summer.
