Odisha Signs Major Investment Deal with NLC India
One of the key highlights of India Chem 2026 was the signing of an MoU worth Rs 36,763.51 crore with NLC India Ltd in the chemicals and energy sectors.
The agreement formed a major part of the investment proposals attracted by Odisha during the event. The proposed investments are expected to support industrial development and create employment opportunities, subject to the implementation of the projects.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the discussions provided an opportunity for potential investors to understand the facilities and opportunities available in Odisha. They also helped the state gain a better understanding of investors’ requirements and expectations.
The Chief Minister thanked Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers J. P. Nadda for his support in facilitating discussions with companies.
Nine MoUs and Four Investment Intents Signed
Odisha’s participation in India Chem 2026 resulted in nine MoUs and four investment intents, reflecting industry interest in the state’s potential in the chemicals and energy sectors.
In addition to the formal agreements and investment proposals, CM Majhi’s 25 individual meetings with business leaders provided an opportunity to discuss potential projects, industrial infrastructure and investment possibilities.
The participation of companies from India, the United States and Europe also offered scope for strengthening business relationships and exploring future industrial partnerships.
The proposed investments have the potential to contribute to Odisha’s industrial expansion and employment generation as projects progress towards implementation.
Odisha Chem 2027 to Be Held in October
In another major announcement, Chief Minister Majhi said that Odisha Chem 2027 would be held in October 2027. The announcement followed approval from the Central Government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for Odisha’s proposal to host the event.
The proposed event is expected to provide a platform for the state to showcase its industrial potential, connect with investors and explore further opportunities in the chemicals and petrochemicals industries.
Hosting Odisha Chem 2027 would also strengthen the state’s efforts to position itself as an attractive destination for investment in emerging industrial sectors.
Odisha Plans to Diversify Beyond the Metal-Based Economy
The state government is working towards diversifying Odisha’s traditionally metal-based economy by developing the chemicals and petrochemicals sectors.
According to CM Majhi, the initiative aims to establish an integrated industrial ecosystem connecting metals, metal downstream industries, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics.
Such an ecosystem could help industries develop stronger supply chains, expand value-added manufacturing and create new opportunities for investment and employment.
The strategy also aligns with the national objective of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India, by strengthening domestic industrial capacity and supporting economic growth.
