Odisha Weather: Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in 9 Districts

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to witness a change in weather conditions from Wednesday as a trough line influences the state. Several northern and interior parts of Odisha are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for nine districts, forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of the state.

Yellow Warning for Nine Districts

The districts under the IMD yellow warning are:

  • Sundargarh
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj
  • Balasore
  • Bhadrak
  • Jajpur
  • Kendrapada
  • Jagatsinghpur
  • Cuttack

According to the forecast, northern Odisha is likely to experience the most noticeable impact of the weather system, while some coastal districts may also receive showers.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by gusty winds reaching around 30–40 kmph, prompting residents to remain cautious, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.

IMD Advises Caution During Thunderstorms

People in the affected districts have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities when lightning or strong winds occur.

Residents are also advised to take shelter in safe buildings during thunderstorms and avoid open areas, isolated trees and other potentially unsafe locations.

Dry Weather Expected From October 9

The weather conditions are expected to improve from the afternoon of October 9, with relatively dry weather likely to return across Odisha.

The current forecast indicates that there may not be any major weather warning during this period, providing a temporary break from the rain and thunderstorms.

Another Spell of Rain Possible Around October 14-15

The dry spell, however, may not last for long. According to the forecast, an easterly wave could influence Odisha around October 14 and 15, potentially bringing another spell of rain to several parts of the state.

Light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms may occur at some places during this period, indicating that unsettled weather could return after the brief improvement.
