Asian Games 2026: Esha Singh Wins Silver as India Adds Medals Across Shooting, Boxing and Athletics

India continued its medal-winning campaign at the Asian Games on Day 10, with Esha Singh securing silver in the women’s 25m pistol individual event. Pincky Balhara also won bronze in kurash, while Indian boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Priya and Kapil Pokhariya secured medals by reaching their respective semifinals or quarterfinals. India’s men’s cricket team also advanced to the semifinal after its match against Afghanistan was abandoned due to rain.

Esha Singh Clinches Silver in Women’s 25m Pistol

Indian shooter Esha Singh narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol individual final after the contest went into a shoot-off.

The 21-year-old Indian finished with the silver medal, adding another medal to India’s strong shooting campaign at the Games.

Earlier in the event, Esha, along with Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat, finished fifth in the women’s 25m pistol team event.

Manu Bhaker, who has previously won two medals at a single edition of the Olympics, could not qualify for the individual 25m pistol final. The Indian team also finished fifth in the team competition.

Pincky Balhara Wins Kurash Bronze

Pincky Balhara secured India’s first medal of the day by winning bronze in the women’s -78kg kurash event.

Balhara defeated South Korea’s Lim Garam in the quarterfinal to secure a medal spot. She then faced another South Korean opponent, Mo Sumin, in the semifinal.

Balhara lost the semifinal and finished with the bronze medal.

Lovlina Borgohain Assures Boxing Medal

India’s boxing campaign received another boost as Lovlina Borgohain advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 75kg category.

Lovlina defeated South Korea’s Seong Suyeon in the quarterfinal, guaranteeing herself a medal.

Her progression adds another medal opportunity for India in boxing as she continues her campaign in the tournament.

Priya Also Secures Medal in Boxing

Indian boxer Priya advanced after defeating Mijgona Samadova of Tajikistan in the women’s 60kg quarterfinal.

The victory guaranteed Priya a medal and added another Indian boxer to the medal-winning list.

Kapil Pokhariya Advances in Men’s 90kg

Kapil Pokhariya also secured a medal after defeating South Korea’s Kim Gichae in the men’s 90kg quarterfinal.

His victory took him further into the competition and ensured another medal for India’s boxing contingent.

Athletics Produces Multiple Medals and Finalists

India recorded several notable performances in athletics.

Gulveer Singh won silver in the men’s 1500m final, adding another athletics medal to India’s tally.

Vithya Ramaraj secured bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, while Anu Raghavan finished fifth in the same final.

In other events, Seema and Sanya Yadav finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the women’s discus throw final.

Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan finished seventh in the men’s 400m hurdles final, while Avinash Sable placed fourth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final.

India also advanced to the final of the 4x100m mixed relay after progressing through the heats.

Indian Men’s Cricket Team Reaches Semifinals

India’s men’s cricket team secured a place in the semifinals after its match against Afghanistan was abandoned because of rain.

With no result possible, India’s higher ICC ranking allowed the team to progress to the next stage of the competition.

The result keeps Shreyas Iyer’s side in contention for a medal in the cricket tournament.

Strong Results in Squash

Indian squash teams also recorded several victories during the day.

The Indian women’s team defeated China 2-1 and later beat Japan 2-1 in their respective pool matches.

The men’s team recorded convincing victories over China 3-0 and South Korea 2-0.

These results strengthened India’s position in the team competitions.

Archery Sees Mixed Results

In compound archery, Chikitha Taniparthi advanced after defeating Chen Yi-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei in the women’s individual round of 16.

Earlier, Chikitha had defeated Dorji Dolma of Bhutan in the round of 32.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam progressed past Kazakhstan’s Adel Zhexenbinova in the round of 32 but was subsequently eliminated by South Korea’s Kang Yeonseo in the round of 16.

In the men’s compound individual event, Thirumuru Ganesh Mani Ratnam defeated Sahil Jadhav in the round of 16.

India Wins in Men’s Volleyball

India recorded a straight-set victory over Hong Kong, winning their men’s volleyball group match 3-0.

The result added another positive outcome for the Indian contingent in the team sports.

Shooting Qualification Continues

Apart from Esha Singh’s silver medal, Indian shooters remained involved in qualification events.

In men’s trap qualifying after Day 2, Shapath Bharadwaj was fifth, while Kynan Chenai stood 19th and Ahvar Rizvi 32nd.

In women’s trap qualifying, Neeru was placed first, followed by Manisha Keer in 21st and Aashima Ahlawat in 23rd.

Tennis and Surfing Events

In tennis, Sumit Nagal’s men’s singles second-round match against South Korea’s Hong Seong-chan was postponed to the following day.

In women’s doubles, Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale were eliminated in the first round after losing to Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Yuliya Putinseva.

In surfing, Sivaraj Babu lost to the Philippines’ Jayuard Alciso in the men’s shortboard Round 3, while Kishore Kumar Anbarasu defeated China’s Ma Wensong in the same round.

Day 10 brought medals for India across shooting, kurash and athletics, while boxing produced multiple assured medals and the men’s cricket team moved into the semifinals.
