Senior IPS officer Amitendra Nath Sinha, a 2002-batch Odisha-cadre officer, has been appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Sinha was serving as an Inspector General with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) before his transfer to the BSF.
Union Home Ministry Issues Appointment Order
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification regarding Sinha’s appointment.
According to the order, Sinha will hold the post from the date he assumes charge until July 10, 2028, or until further orders from the government.
His tenure as BSF IG will be counted as part of his five-year central deputation period.
Sinha has been on central deputation since July 11, 2023.
Sinha’s Experience In Odisha Police
Before moving to central deputation, Amitendra Nath Sinha held several important positions in the Odisha Police.
During his career in the state police, he also served as Inspector General of the Crime Branch, where he was involved in key assignments within the state’s specialised investigation wing.
His experience in both Odisha Police and central armed police forces precedes his latest assignment with the BSF.
New Role In Border Security Force
As Inspector General of the BSF, Sinha will take up a senior leadership role in one of India’s key border-guarding forces.
His appointment comes as part of the government’s ongoing deployment of senior IPS officers on central deputation.
