Brahmapur: With growing concerns over marine pollution and coastal waste, an awareness programme promoting the message ‘Clean Sea, Safe Sea’ (Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar) was organised at Gopalpur Beach in Ganjam district. The initiative focused on encouraging residents, tourists and visitors to take greater responsibility for keeping the coastline clean and protecting the marine ecosystem.
The programme aimed to spread awareness about responsible behaviour along the coast and underline the importance of reducing plastic and other forms of waste that can adversely affect marine life and the coastal environment.
Focus on Plastic-Free and Cleaner Beaches
As part of the awareness campaign, people were urged not to throw plastic bottles, polythene, food wrappers and other waste on the beach or into the sea. Visitors were encouraged to use designated waste disposal facilities and maintain cleanliness while enjoying the coastal destination.
The campaign also emphasised that keeping beaches clean cannot be the responsibility of the administration alone. Active participation from tourists, local communities, businesses and other stakeholders is essential to ensure that coastal areas remain clean, safe and environmentally sustainable.

Ganjam Collector V. Keerthivasan, along with the Additional Collector and several other officials, attended the awareness programme and highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness along the coastline and protecting the marine environment.
The officials stressed that sustained public cooperation is essential for keeping Gopalpur Beach free from plastic and other waste. They also encouraged visitors and local residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices and contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of the coastal area.

The ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar’ campaign at Gopalpur Beach serves as a reminder that protecting the coastline requires continuous public awareness and collective action.
