Bollywood actor Sunny Deol’s much-awaited period drama Batwara 1947 is set to arrive in theatres on August 14, 2026. Ahead of its theatrical release, filmmaker Ramesh Taurani attended a screening of the film along with Aamir Khan and Ali Fazal and shared a highly positive response to the movie.

Taurani particularly praised Sunny Deol, calling his performance powerful and impactful. He also appreciated the performances of Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol, highlighting the depth and authenticity they bring to their respective characters.

Advance bookings for both movies opened shortly before their theatrical release. According to the figures cited in the report, Awarapan 2 had established a lead in advance bookings by Thursday afternoon.
The reported advance booking figures indicated that Batwara 1947 had sold around 30,000 tickets nationwide for its opening day, generating approximately ₹81 lakh in advance gross. In comparison, Awarapan 2 had crossed 1 lakh tickets and recorded around ₹3.25 crore in advance gross.
With both films releasing on the same day, the opening weekend is expected to determine the initial box-office momentum of the two Bollywood releases.
