In a major initiative to improve financial literacy and enhance employment opportunities, the Odisha government has launched a special programme to provide free professional training in stock markets, mutual funds, insurance, banking, and financial transactions for college students across the state.
The initiative aims to create a skilled workforce for the financial services sector by equipping students with practical knowledge, industry-relevant skills, and professional certifications.
Free Professional Course on Mutual Funds
Under the programme, students enrolled in courses such as Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Commerce, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Commerce (M.Com) will receive a 30-hour professional certificate course on mutual funds.
The training is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in financial markets and investment-related concepts, helping them build careers in the rapidly growing financial sector.
Preparation for NISM Certification
In addition to classroom sessions, participants will be trained for the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) certification examination, a nationally recognised qualification for professionals working in the securities and financial markets industry.
The certification is expected to improve students’ employability by preparing them for careers in banking, wealth management, investment advisory, mutual funds, insurance, and other financial services.
Practical Industry-Oriented Learning
The programme will introduce students to key aspects of the financial ecosystem, including:
- Stock market fundamentals
- Mutual fund operations
- Banking and financial transactions
- Investment products
- Risk management
- Financial planning
- Insurance services
By combining theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
First Phase to Cover 97 Colleges and Universities
In the initial phase, the programme will be rolled out in 97 selected colleges and universities located within a 100-kilometre radius of major cities, including:
- Bhubaneswar
- Berhampur
- Bhadrak
- Dhenkanal
- Jeypore
- Kendrapara
- Keonjhar
- Rourkela
- Sambalpur
The state government plans to use this phased approach to reach a large number of students while strengthening financial education across higher educational institutions.
Strengthening Career Opportunities
With increasing demand for skilled professionals in the banking, investment, and financial services industries, the initiative is expected to enhance students’ job readiness and open new career opportunities in one of India’s fastest-growing sectors.
By offering free professional training and preparing students for industry-recognised certification, the Odisha government aims to empower young graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the modern financial ecosystem.
