Schools Closed in Kandhamal for Two Days Due to Heavy Rain

Phulbani: The Kandhamal district administration has announced the closure of all schools for two days, July 2 and July 3, in view of continuous heavy rainfall affecting several parts of the district. The order applies to students from pre-primary to Class 12 across government, government-aided, and private educational institutions.

The decision was taken by the District Collector as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

Decision Amid Persistent Rainfall

Kandhamal has been witnessing intense and persistent rainfall over the past several days under the influence of active monsoon conditions. Continuous showers have led to concerns over waterlogging, slippery roads, and the possibility of disruptions to transportation, particularly in rural and hilly areas of the district.

Considering the weather forecast and the need to safeguard students, the district administration decided to suspend classroom teaching for two days.

Officials said the temporary closure is intended to minimize the risk of accidents and inconvenience caused by heavy rain.

Exams and Scheduled Activities Unaffected

While regular classes have been suspended, the administration clarified that scheduled examinations and other official academic activities will continue as planned.

Students appearing for examinations have been advised to stay in touch with their respective schools for any instructions regarding examination timings and arrangements.

Safety Remains the Priority

The district administration has urged parents and guardians to keep children indoors during periods of heavy rainfall and to avoid unnecessary travel unless essential.

Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and will issue further instructions if rainfall continues or conditions worsen in the coming days.

The closure comes as several parts of Odisha continue to receive heavy rainfall under the influence of an active monsoon system, prompting weather alerts in multiple districts.
