Bhubaneswar: Odisha has achieved a major milestone in its clean energy journey by winning the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award for outstanding performance during the nationwide ‘Month of Solar’ campaign. The recognition highlights the state’s rapid progress in promoting rooftop solar energy and strengthening its renewable energy ecosystem.
Odisha Tops Key Solar Performance Indicators
Odisha secured the top position among medium-consumer category states in three major categories under the PM Surya Ghar programme:
- Highest number of consumer applications for rooftop solar installations
- Highest number of rooftop solar systems installed
- Highest number of DISCOM inspections and verifications completed
In addition, the state ranked third nationally in vendor registrations, reflecting growing participation from solar service providers and the expansion of Odisha’s solar infrastructure network.
Boost for Clean Energy Adoption
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, aims to accelerate rooftop solar adoption by providing financial assistance and incentives to households. The scheme seeks to promote clean energy generation, reduce electricity costs, and support India’s transition towards sustainable energy sources.
Odisha’s strong performance under the programme demonstrates increasing public participation in renewable energy and the effectiveness of government-led awareness and implementation efforts.
CM Majhi Hails Achievement
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described the award as a significant achievement for the state and a reflection of Odisha’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo termed the award a landmark moment in Odisha’s green energy transition.
