Rajasthan Royals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a thrilling seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants after successfully chasing down a daunting target of 221 with five balls to spare.
Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the star of the night with a sensational 93-run knock that turned the high-pressure chase into a memorable statement victory for Rajasthan.
Sooryavanshi Steals The Show
After the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who contributed a quick 43, Sooryavanshi took charge of the innings with fearless strokeplay and remarkable composure.
The youngster raced to a blazing half-century in just 23 balls, immediately shifting momentum in Rajasthan’s favour. His aggressive approach ensured the required run rate never spiralled out of control as RR maintained control of the chase throughout.
Sooryavanshi smashed boundaries all around the ground and dominated the LSG bowling attack before eventually falling for a superb 93, narrowly missing out on a deserved century.
The innings also helped him move to the top of the Orange Cap standings, making him the leading run-scorer of IPL 2026 so far.
RR Stay Alive In Playoff Race
The victory came at a crucial stage of the tournament for Rajasthan Royals, who entered the match under pressure after suffering three consecutive defeats.
With the win, RR remain firmly in contention for the final playoff spot. The team still has two matches remaining, and victories in both games would guarantee qualification without relying on other results.
Captain Riyan Parag missed the clash, but Rajasthan showed resilience and attacking intent in a must-win encounter.
Marsh’s 96 Lifts LSG To 220
Earlier, LSG posted a formidable 220/5 after a dominant batting display led by Mitchell Marsh, who narrowly missed out on a century.
Marsh played a commanding knock of 96 runs, controlling the innings with a combination of powerful hitting and smart placement. He fell agonisingly short of the three-figure mark in the final over.
Josh Inglis had earlier provided a flying start to Lucknow with a destructive powerplay innings, bringing up a rapid half-century and putting the Rajasthan bowlers under immediate pressure.
The Marsh-Inglis partnership laid the foundation for LSG’s massive total in what was a high-scoring contest.
Pressure Mounts On Playoff Rivals
Although LSG are already out of playoff contention, they once again showed fight and competitiveness despite their inconsistent season.
For Rajasthan Royals, however, the victory could prove season-defining. After losing momentum in recent matches, the franchise has revived its campaign at the perfect time with a strong batting performance led by its emerging young star.
With the playoff race entering its final phase, Sooryavanshi’s form has become a massive boost for Rajasthan as they look to secure a place in the knockout stage.
