More than 100 people lost their lives after heavy rain and severe storms lashed Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, causing widespread destruction across several districts.
Prayagraj reported the highest number of fatalities with 21 deaths, followed by Bhadohi with 18, Mirzapur with 15 and Fatehpur with 10 deaths.
Several other districts, including Unnao, Badaun, Bareilly and Pratapgarh, also reported multiple casualties.
Widespread Damage Across State
The sudden weather change triggered strong winds, uprooted trees and electric poles, damaged houses and blocked several roads across the state.
Residents in many areas were seen taking shelter under flyovers and trees as debris, tin sheds and temporary structures were swept away by the storm.
Videos circulating on social media showed the intensity of the storm, including one incident from Bareilly where a man was reportedly thrown nearly 50 feet into a field by powerful winds.
Bridges Damaged, Villages Cut Off
In Bhadohi and Mirzapur, pontoon bridges suffered major damage, disrupting connectivity and cutting off access to several villages.
Lightning strikes, falling trees and wall collapses also caused deaths and injuries in districts such as Pratapgarh, Kanpur Dehat and Deoria.
CM Yogi Orders Immediate Relief
Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure immediate relief measures.
The Chief Minister ordered financial assistance to affected families within 24 hours and instructed divisional commissioners and district magistrates to verify incidents sensitively and provide prompt support.
