Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy products under the Amul brand, has increased the price of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre across major variants and pack sizes across India with effect from May 14.
The federation said the revised rates would apply to all major Amul milk variants from Thursday.
Amul Cites Rising Production Costs
In an official statement, GCMMF said the price hike of Rs 2 per litre amounts to an increase of nearly 2.5 to 3.5 per cent. The cooperative also noted that milk prices had not been revised since May 2025.
According to GCMMF, the revision was necessitated due to rising operational and milk production costs.
“This price hike is being done due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk. There is a substantial increase in cost of cattle feed, milk packaging film and fuel during the year,” the federation stated.
The cooperative body also said that member unions had increased procurement prices paid to farmers by Rs 30 per kg of fat, reflecting a 3.7 per cent rise compared to May 2025.
Federation Says Farmers Will Benefit
GCMMF stated that the revised prices would help sustain remunerative returns for dairy farmers and encourage increased milk production.
“Amul as a policy passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers,” the statement added.
Mother Dairy Also Revises Milk Prices
Meanwhile, Mother Dairy has also announced a Rs 2 per litre increase in consumer prices for its liquid milk variants, effective May 14.
The company said the revision was triggered by a sustained increase in procurement prices paid to farmers over the past year.
“Mother Dairy will revise the consumer prices of its liquid milk variants by Rs 2 per litre, effective May 14, 2026. The revision has been necessitated in view of the sustained increase in farmer procurement prices, of around 6 per cent over the past one year,” the company said in a statement.
