Odisha minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Wednesday appealed to people to minimize fuel consumption and increasingly adopt electric vehicles (EVs), echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for responsible and sustainable transportation practices.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s message on energy conservation, Jena urged citizens to embrace eco-friendly travel habits and reduce unnecessary dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
Minister Highlights PM Modi’s Appeal On Fuel Conservation
Jena said the Prime Minister had encouraged people to use EVs more frequently, avoid unnecessary travel and reduce the use of vehicles for single-person commuting.
The minister also praised Modi’s symbolic decision to reduce the number of vehicles in the Prime Minister’s motorcade, describing it as an example of responsible governance and conscious fuel conservation.
Push For Public Transport And Electric Mobility
Highlighting the Centre’s efforts to accelerate electric mobility, Jena noted that subsidies for EVs have been extended till 2028 to promote wider adoption of clean transportation.
He urged people across Odisha to increasingly opt for electric vehicles and support the transition towards sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility systems.
The minister also encouraged greater use of public transportation services such as Ama Bus instead of relying on private vehicles for short-distance travel.
Call For Car Pooling And Shared Transport
Apart from promoting EV adoption, Jena advised citizens to practice car pooling and scooty pooling to reduce fuel usage, traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
Reinforcing his message with a personal commitment, the minister said he himself would use government bus services for commuting.
“I will travel by government bus,” he stated while stressing that fuel conservation and sustainable transportation should become a collective responsibility.
Focus On Green Mobility In Odisha
The minister’s appeal comes amid growing emphasis on green mobility, cleaner energy alternatives and efficient public transport systems across Odisha and the country.
With rising concerns over global fuel prices, energy security and environmental sustainability, both the Centre and states have increasingly been encouraging citizens to reduce fuel dependence and adopt environmentally responsible transportation practices.
