Rinku Singh’s Father Khanchand Singh Passes Away After Cancer Battle

The father of Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, Khanchand Singh, passed away on Friday after battling stage four cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where his condition had reportedly deteriorated earlier this week, leading to ventilator support.

The news was shared by former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who expressed his condolences and extended prayers to the grieving family.

Taking to social media platform X, Harbhajan wrote, “Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family.”

Rinku Leaves Camp Amid Family Emergency

The 28-year-old all-rounder had left the team camp ahead of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s clash against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai due to his father’s worsening health. Although he returned in time for the match, he was not included in the playing XI, with Sanju Samson preferred for the fixture.

Rinku has now flown back home to be with his family during this difficult period. He is expected to rejoin the squad before the final Super 8s encounter against the West Indies.

A Father’s Sacrifice Behind a Cricketing Journey

Khanchand Singh played a pivotal role in shaping Rinku’s cricketing career. Working as an LPG cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh, he faced significant financial hardships but ensured that his son had the support and opportunities needed to pursue professional cricket.

Rinku’s rise from modest beginnings to representing India on the global stage has often been linked to his father’s relentless encouragement and sacrifices.

As condolences continue to pour in from the cricketing fraternity, the Indian team and fans alike stand in solidarity with Rinku Singh and his family during this time of loss.
