Royal Challengers Bengaluru once again lived up to their rallying cry — “Ee Sala Kuda Cup Namdu” — as RCB Women lifted their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title, defeating Delhi Capitals by six wickets in a high-octane final on Thursday night. Chasing a massive target of 204, RCB sealed the victory with two balls to spare, scripting another iconic chapter in franchise history.
Mandhana Leads From the Front
RCB captain Smriti Mandhana produced a captain’s knock when it mattered the most, smashing a breathtaking 87 off just 41 balls. She found an ideal partner in Georgia Voll, who played a brilliant knock of 79, as the duo stitched together a match-defining 165-run partnership for the second wicket.
Their explosive stand completely turned the game on its head after an early setback, laying the foundation for one of the most memorable chases in WPL history. This triumph marks RCB Women’s second title, their first having come in 2024.
Historic Double for RCB Franchise
With this win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru achieved a historic milestone. For the first time in Indian franchise cricket history, one team now holds both the men’s and women’s titles. RCB had lifted their maiden IPL trophy in 2025, and the WPL triumph further cements the franchise’s golden era.
Virat Kohli Reacts to RCB’s Triumph
RCB icon Virat Kohli was quick to celebrate the landmark victory. After liking RCB’s celebratory post on Instagram, Kohli shared a heartfelt message congratulating the team, with special praise for Mandhana — who wears the same jersey number as him.
“Champions again. Keeping the RCB flag flying high and something that each one of you can be proud of. To Smriti @smriti_mandhana and the whole squad and management, a big congratulations for this tremendous victory. You guys deserve this undoubtedly. Enjoy the moment and embrace the love of our amazing fans,” Kohli wrote.
Another Final Heartbreak for Delhi Capitals
The defeat marked Delhi Capitals’ fourth consecutive loss in a WPL final, extending their unfortunate record at the summit stage. DC skipper Jemimah Rodrigues, who is a close friend of Mandhana, was visibly emotional after the match. In a touching moment, the two shared a long embrace on the field, reflecting the spirit of the game beyond the result.
How the WPL 2026 Final Unfolded
After winning the toss, RCB opted to bowl first. Delhi Capitals put up a formidable total of 203/4 in 20 overs, led by Jemimah Rodrigues’ 57. Valuable contributions also came from Laura Wolvaardt (47), Lizelle Lee (37) and Chinelle Henry (35).
RCB’s chase started on a shaky note as Grace Harris was dismissed in the second over. However, Mandhana and Voll took complete control thereafter, dismantling the DC bowling attack with fearless strokeplay.
Both batters fell against the run of play, leaving RCB needing 10 runs off the final over. Radha Yadav held her nerve under pressure, striking boundaries on the third and fourth balls of the over to clinch the title and send RCB fans into wild celebration.
