S-400 Air Defence System to Debut at Republic Day 2026 Parade, Highlighting India’s Military Might and Operation Sindoor

For the first time ever, India’s formidable S-400 air defence missile system will be publicly showcased at the 77th Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026, as part of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) tableau at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. The announcement was made by Air Commodore Manish Sabharwal, confirming that the advanced missile defence platform—credited with safeguarding India during last year’s military confrontation with Pakistan—will take centre stage in the grand national समारोह.

The display is part of the “Tri-Services Tableau – Operation Sindoor”, symbolising the seamless operational coordination between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, and celebrating India’s growing defence self-reliance and joint warfare capabilities.

S-400: Symbol of Strategic Defence Power

The S-400 missile defence system, one of the world’s most advanced long-range air defence platforms, played a decisive role during Operation Sindoor, a strategic military operation launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 last year.

In August, Amar Preet Singh, the Chief of Air Staff, confirmed that India’s S-400 systems successfully shot down five Pakistani fighter jets during the operation, neutralising aerial threats and protecting key strategic assets. This marked a major milestone in India’s integrated air defence capability and showcased the effectiveness of modern missile shield systems in real combat scenarios.

This year’s DMA tableau will be themed around “Operation Sindoor”, reflecting the joint operational synergy of India’s armed forces. The tableau will present a powerful narrative of:

  • Indigenous defence production

  • Strategic deterrence strength

The parade will be led for the fourth consecutive year by Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, as confirmed by Navraj Dhillon.

A total of 6,050 military personnel will participate in the grand parade, making it one of the largest military ceremonial formations in recent years.
