Gopalpur Beach Festival Rescheduled, To Be Held from January 27 to 30

The much-awaited Gopalpur Beach Festival, a major cultural and tourism event of southern Odisha, will now be held from January 27 to January 30, 2026, in the picturesque coastal town of Gopalpur in Ganjam district, officials announced on Wednesday.

Originally scheduled to begin on January 22, the four-day festival has been rescheduled to ensure the participation of high-profile dignitaries and to accommodate ceremonial engagements. The revised dates were finalized following a preparatory meeting chaired by Odisha’s Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Jena confirmed that the inaugural ceremony on January 27 will be graced by Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, while the closing ceremony on January 30 will witness the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Senior officials from various departments, local administrators, and tourism representatives attended the meeting to review arrangements and ensure smooth execution of the event.

“The festival was initially planned from January 22, but keeping in view the schedules of the Governor and the Chief Minister, the dates have been revised to January 27–30. The Gopalpur Beach Festival will highlight Odisha’s vibrant cultural heritage while significantly promoting tourism and local livelihoods,” Minister Jena said.

Over the four days, visitors can look forward to a wide range of attractions, including live music and folk dance performances, exhibitions of local handicrafts and handloom products, vibrant beach activities, and stalls offering traditional Odia cuisine and coastal delicacies. Cultural troupes from different parts of the state are also expected to perform, reflecting Odisha’s diverse artistic heritage.

Boost to Local Economy and Tourism

Officials emphasized that the festival plays a crucial role in boosting tourism in Ganjam district and generating livelihood opportunities for local artisans, self-help groups, food vendors, and small entrepreneurs. Hotels, transport operators, and local businesses in and around Gopalpur are also expected to benefit from the increased tourist inflow during the festival period.

The administration has been directed to ensure adequate arrangements related to security, traffic management, sanitation, accommodation, and medical facilities to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. Special focus is being laid on cleanliness and environmental protection to preserve the pristine beach ecosystem.

With its blend of culture, entertainment, and scenic beauty, the Gopalpur Beach Festival 2026 is expected to further strengthen Odisha’s image as a premier coastal tourism destination and leave a lasting impression on visitors.
