Guwahati, November 9: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is celebrating its 93rd Air Force Day today, honouring the courage, discipline, and indomitable spirit of the nation’s air warriors. This year’s theme, “Infallible, Impervious and Precise,” underscores the IAF’s enduring commitment to operational excellence, resilience, and precision in defending India’s skies.
A magnificent air display over the Brahmaputra River at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati marked the highlight of the celebrations—making it the first time the Air Force Day parade and show have been held in the Northeast.
Spectacular Air Show Showcases India’s Air Power
Nearly 60 aircraft, including Rafale, Su-30 MKI, Mirage 2000, LCA Tejas, C-130J Super Hercules, and Apache attack helicopters, performed stunning aerial manoeuvres over the Brahmaputra between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm.
The formations were named after iconic Northeast landmarks such as Lachit, Kaziranga, Manas, Elephant, and Barak, blending regional pride with aviation excellence.
The LCA Tejas, flying under the call sign “Lachit,” opened the show in tribute to the legendary Assamese military hero Lachit Barphukan. The Apache helicopters, performing under the formation name “Rhinoceros,” symbolised Assam’s famous wildlife heritage.
A special musical tribute accompanied the air show, featuring the beloved Assamese song “Mayabini Ratir Bukut” by Zubeen Garg, evoking a sense of cultural pride and nostalgia among spectators.
Distinguished Dignitaries in Attendance
The event was graced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with senior IAF officials and thousands of spectators lining the riverfront.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued for the duration of the event, with seven major airbases across Assam and West Bengal placed on heightened operational alert to ensure safety and coordination.
A Tribute to Courage and Excellence
Marking nine decades of service, the IAF continues to play a crucial role in India’s defense and humanitarian missions. From border security and disaster relief operations to international rescue missions, the IAF has showcased unmatched professionalism and precision.
The 93rd Air Force Day celebrations in Guwahati not only displayed India’s technological prowess but also symbolized national unity and regional inclusivity, bringing the spirit of the armed forces closer to the people of the Northeast.
