President Droupadi Murmu is likely to visit Odisha towards the end of November, marking her first visit to the State Legislative Assembly since assuming office as the President of India. The information was shared by Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday, who said that the state government has begun preparations while awaiting a formal schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President May Address Winter Session of Odisha Assembly
Minister Harichandan revealed that the Odisha Government has proposed that the President address the upcoming winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. “The details of the programme are being finalised. There is a possibility of the President visiting Odisha. Additional information will be shared in due time,” Harichandan said.
If confirmed, the address would be a historic occasion, as it would be President Murmu’s first visit to the Assembly after assuming the country’s highest constitutional post in July 2022.
Preparations Underway at Assembly
Ahead of the expected visit, the Assembly Secretariat has begun revamping and redecorating the chamber traditionally reserved for the President. Renovation and interior beautification work are also underway in various parts of the Assembly complex to welcome the President.
Sources said special attention is being given to restoring the chamber that Murmu once used as a Minister, highlighting the sentimental value of her return to the same premises in a new capacity as the Head of State.
An Emotionally Significant Return
Before rising to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Droupadi Murmu served as Minister of Commerce and Transport and MLA from Rairangpur. Her likely visit to the Assembly carries deep emotional resonance, reconnecting her with her early political journey in Odisha, where she began her public service nearly two decades ago.
Political observers say her visit will be seen as a moment of pride for Odisha, especially for the Mayurbhanj region, from where she hails.
Last Visit in July 2025
President Murmu last visited Odisha in July 2025, attending the 5th Convocation of AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the 13th Convocation of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack.
Security agencies and local authorities have reportedly begun coordinating logistics, route planning, and security arrangements ahead of her possible visit next month.
