Devdas Chhotray Honoured with 2025 Sarala Puraskar for Short-Story Collection ‘Matinee Show’

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: Eminent poet and writer Devdas Chhotray has been conferred with this year’s prestigious Sarala Puraskar for his acclaimed short-story collection ‘Matinee Show’ published in 2023. The award ceremony, held in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, was organised by the IMFA Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) to celebrate excellence in literature and art.

Chhotray received a cash prize of ₹7 lakh, along with an uttariya (shawl), citation, and plaque at the grand literary event. Expressing his gratitude, Chhotray said, “My father had bagged the award 25 years ago. I remember IMFA giving him the award in Delhi. It’s a prestigious honour, and I feel blessed to receive it.”

The ceremony also honoured two eminent personalities in the field of art with the Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman for lifetime excellencerenowned painter Baladev Maharatha and noted Odissi music guru Ramhari Das. Both artists received ₹2.5 lakh each, along with a citation and plaque, for their remarkable contributions.

Speaking at the event, Ramhari Das expressed his joy, saying, “Those who know me also know that Sir bagged the award because of his contribution to Odissi song. Let others be inspired and enrich Odissi music across India and abroad.”

Painter Baladev Maharatha also shared his thoughts, stating, “I feel honoured to receive this award. It will encourage the younger generation to pursue their passion for art and move forward with dedication.”

Instituted by IMFA Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), the Sarala Puraskar and Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman are among Odisha’s most respected recognitions, awarded annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in literature, art, and culture.
