Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions until October 7, with high daytime temperatures and elevated humidity making the weather uncomfortable across several parts of the state.
The heat is being felt from the morning hours, while warm and humid conditions are expected to continue during the night. The gradual withdrawal of the southwest monsoon has also contributed to clearer skies and increased exposure to direct sunlight.
Heat And Humidity To Continue
With cloud cover reducing across the state, stronger sunlight is reaching the surface, contributing to a rise in daytime temperatures.
Moisture remaining in the atmosphere after the rainy season is also contributing to higher humidity. As this moisture evaporates under the stronger sunshine, the combination of heat and humidity can make conditions feel more uncomfortable.
Residents may therefore continue to experience strong heat during the daytime, followed by warm and humid conditions at night.
Monsoon Withdrawal Brings Clearer Skies
The gradual withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is resulting in relatively clearer skies over Odisha. Reduced cloud cover allows more solar radiation to reach the ground, which can push temperatures upward.
The change in weather comes after Odisha experienced significant rainfall during the monsoon season. With rainfall activity decreasing in many areas, temperatures are now showing an upward trend.
Cyclone Season Begins
October and November are generally considered important months for the development of weather systems over the Bay of Bengal. During this period, low-pressure areas and depressions can form over the sea and may influence weather conditions along the Odisha coast.
Before the formation or movement of such systems, wind speeds over land may remain relatively low. When weaker winds combine with high temperatures and elevated humidity, people can experience greater discomfort.
Weather conditions could change if a significant low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal. For now, however, Odisha is expected to remain largely hot and humid through October 7.
