The Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar has been declared a ‘Tobacco-Free Zone’ by the Odisha Government as part of efforts to promote a healthier, cleaner and safer workplace.
The decision aims to protect government employees and visitors from exposure to tobacco products while maintaining cleanliness across the premises.
The Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a notification outlining the new restrictions.
Smoking, Tobacco Consumption Banned
Under the new rules, smoking and consumption of tobacco products are prohibited throughout the Lok Seva Bhawan premises.
The restrictions apply to everyone entering the government complex, including employees, visitors and other persons.
Spitting tobacco or tobacco-related substances within the premises has also been prohibited as part of the initiative to maintain a cleaner public environment.
Violators May Face Penalties
The government has warned that violations of the tobacco-free rules may attract fines and legal action under applicable laws.
Authorities have urged employees and visitors to comply with the restrictions and contribute to maintaining the government complex as a tobacco-free environment.

Tobacco Use Linked To Major Health Risks
The government’s decision comes amid concerns over the health impact of tobacco use.
Tobacco consumption is associated with several serious non-communicable diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases and lung-related illnesses.
According to the notification, around 1.3 million people die every year in India due to tobacco use.
By declaring Lok Seva Bhawan a Tobacco-Free Zone, the Odisha Government aims to combine workplace health protection with a broader public-awareness message on tobacco-related risks.
The initiative also reinforces the importance of keeping government and other public spaces clean, healthy and safe for employees and visitors.
