Glasgow: India continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, as judokas Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh clinched gold medals in their respective categories on Friday, taking the country’s gold medal tally to five.
The twin victories added another chapter to India’s successful outing at the Games, with both athletes delivering composed and dominant performances in their respective finals.
Asmita Dey Clinches Women’s 48 kg Gold
Asmita Dey emerged victorious in the women’s 48 kg judo event, producing an outstanding performance to secure the gold medal.
An emotional Asmita dedicated her victory to her late father and her coach, recalling the difficult period she went through after losing her father in December 2025.
“I am really happy to win this medal. This medal was very important for me, my state and my country. I dedicate it to my coach. My father, who passed away in December 2025, had supported me a lot, but I felt everything was over after his death. Two months later, the Asian Games trials took place, where I finished first at the national level,” she said after the victory.
Her triumph reflects a remarkable journey of resilience, determination and perseverance despite personal tragedy.
Harsh Singh Wins Men’s 60 kg Title
Adding to India’s medal haul, Harsh Singh captured the men’s 60 kg judo gold after defeating his opponent in the final.
Following his victory, Harsh expressed his happiness and dedicated the medal to his mother.
“I am feeling really happy to win this medal for the country. We prepared well to win today. I dedicate this medal to my mother. If I qualify, I will prepare well for the Asian Games and give my best to win a medal there,” Harsh said.
India’s Campaign Gains Momentum
The two gold medals further strengthened India’s campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking the country’s gold medal tally to five.
With confidence running high, both Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh have now shifted their focus towards the upcoming Asian Games, where they hope to continue their impressive form and add more international medals to India’s tally.
