Amid growing speculation over the possible formation of a cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha government on Monday asserted that it remains fully prepared to tackle any natural disaster situation.
Odisha Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said the state administration is maintaining constant vigilance and is prepared to respond swiftly based on forecasts and advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department.
Odisha Maintains Round-The-Clock Disaster Readiness
Responding to concerns over a potential weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal, Pujari said Odisha has built a strong and reliable disaster management framework over the years. He noted that preparedness against cyclones, heavy rainfall, floods and other weather-related emergencies remains a year-round exercise for the state.
“Odisha has always remained at the forefront in handling natural disasters. We remain prepared throughout all 365 days of the year. As per the IMD forecast, Odisha is fully prepared,” the minister said.
The state, which has frequently faced severe cyclones in the past, has developed one of the country’s most widely recognised disaster response systems. Officials continue to monitor meteorological updates closely as weather conditions over the Bay of Bengal remain under watch.
Experience In Cyclone Management Strengthens Confidence
Odisha’s long experience in dealing with natural disasters has significantly strengthened its institutional capacity. Over the years, the state has enhanced early warning dissemination, evacuation planning, cyclone shelter management and inter-departmental coordination.
Pujari said Odisha has become increasingly capable of minimizing damage caused by natural calamities through timely intervention and preparedness.
“Odisha has become highly capable in fighting natural calamities and dealing with their consequences,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when weather experts are closely tracking atmospheric developments over the Bay of Bengal, although there is no official confirmation yet regarding the intensity or trajectory of any possible cyclonic system.
Government Monitoring IMD Forecasts Closely
The state government is relying on continuous updates from the India Meteorological Department to determine the course of action, if necessary. Officials said preparedness measures remain active across vulnerable coastal districts, with disaster response agencies on standby.
Odisha has often been cited as a model for disaster preparedness in India due to its swift response during past major cyclones, including Cyclone Fani and Cyclone Amphan.
Minister Expresses Hope For Minimal Impact
Referring to Odisha’s spiritual heritage, the minister also expressed hope that the state would remain safe from any major impact.
“Odisha has the blessings of Lord Jagannath and Lord Lingaraj. Hopefully, cyclones change their paths and move elsewhere instead of causing damage to our state,” he said.
He reiterated that all departments remain prepared for any eventuality and that the government is equipped to respond promptly if weather conditions deteriorate in the coming days.
