Odisha Launches WhatsApp-Based Summer Learning Programme for School Students

Bhubaneswar: In a move to ensure uninterrupted learning during the summer vacation, the Odisha School Education Programme Authority has announced a state-wide Summer Learning Programme for students from Shishu Vatika to Class VIII. The initiative will leverage digital platforms, particularly WhatsApp, to keep students engaged academically while they are away from classrooms.

Digital Learning via WhatsApp

Under this programme, students will receive class-wise and subject-specific assignment sheets directly through their parents’ WhatsApp groups. These materials will include a blend of practice exercises and audiovisual content, designed to make learning interactive and effective even in a home environment.

The initiative reflects a growing shift towards integrating technology in education, ensuring that students continue to revise concepts and stay connected with their studies during the long break.

Structured Implementation Across Districts

To ensure smooth execution, OSEPA has already informed district-level education अधिकारियों and shared detailed guidelines for implementation. Schools across Odisha have been directed to actively participate and coordinate the dissemination of learning materials.

Mandatory WhatsApp Group Formation

As part of the rollout, all government schools have been instructed to create grade-wise WhatsApp groups for students by April 25, 2026. These groups must follow a standardized naming format that includes the class and UDISE code, ensuring easy identification and uniformity across the state.

This structured digital network will serve as the primary channel for distributing assignments and educational content throughout the summer period.

Bridging Learning Gaps Through Innovation

The Summer Learning Programme aims to bridge potential learning gaps that may arise during school closures. By combining traditional assignments with engaging audiovisual resources, the initiative seeks to make learning more accessible, flexible, and student-friendly.

Education experts believe that such hybrid approaches can play a crucial role in reinforcing concepts and maintaining academic continuity, especially in regions where access to physical resources may be limited.

With this step, Odisha continues to embrace digital innovation in education, setting an example of how technology can be effectively used to enhance learning outcomes beyond the classroom.
