The intense summer heat continues to grip Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that day temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
Heatwave Alert for Western and Interior Districts
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a heatwave warning for several districts, including Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.
Residents in these regions have been advised to remain cautious as temperatures continue to climb.
Coastal Areas to Face High Humidity
Alongside the rising heat, coastal districts are expected to experience high humidity levels over the next seven days, leading to uncomfortable and oppressive weather conditions.
Temperatures Cross 40°C
On Thursday, at least six towns in Odisha recorded temperatures above 40°C. Titilagarh emerged as the hottest location in the state, registering a maximum temperature of 42°C.
IMD Advisory
According to Manorama Mohanty, temperatures are expected to rise further in the coming days, with humid conditions persisting in coastal regions.
The IMD has urged residents to take precautionary measures, including:
- Avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
- Staying well hydrated
- Limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours
Rising Concern
With both heatwave conditions and humidity intensifying, the coming days are expected to be challenging, particularly for people in western and interior districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise the public to remain alert.
