India Advises Nationals to Leave Iran Immediately Amid Ongoing Regional Tensions

New Delhi: The Government of India has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals in Iran to leave the country immediately, citing the volatile security situation following the recent escalation in the US-Iran conflict.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Embassy of India in Tehran strongly advised Indian citizens to “expeditiously exit Iran” using routes recommended by the embassy.

Embassy Issues Strong Advisory

The embassy emphasized that Indian nationals should strictly coordinate with diplomatic officials before attempting to leave the country, especially when approaching international land borders.

“It is again reiterated that there should be no attempt to approach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination with the Embassy,” the advisory stated.

To assist Indian citizens requiring urgent help, the embassy released multiple emergency contact numbers along with an official email address for assistance:

Advisory Issued After Ceasefire Announcement

The latest advisory came just hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire, temporarily pausing hostilities that had raised global concerns about a wider regional conflict.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, the Indian embassy had advised its citizens in Iran to remain where they were for the next 48 hours as the situation developed.

The warning was issued after US President Donald Trump set a deadline for Iran to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning that severe consequences could follow if the demand was not met.

Thousands of Indians Affected by Conflict

According to official government data, around 9,000 Indian nationals were present in Iran when the conflict escalated following joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets on February 28.

Since then, the Indian government has been working to facilitate safe returns for its citizens. Approximately 1,800 Indians have already returned to India amid the ongoing tensions.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while coordinating with diplomatic channels to ensure the safe evacuation of remaining Indian nationals.

Diplomatic Efforts to End the Conflict

The advisory also comes amid efforts to reduce tensions in the region. The US and Iran reached a temporary two-week ceasefire shortly before a deadline set by President Trump for possible military escalation.

The truce was reportedly reached after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir urged both sides to pause hostilities.

Pakistan has since announced that Islamabad will host negotiations between US and Iranian delegations on April 10, aiming to reach a “conclusive agreement” to resolve the conflict.

Iran has also indicated its willingness to participate in talks with Washington in Pakistan as part of broader diplomatic efforts to restore stability.

Situation Remains Under Watch

While the ceasefire has temporarily eased tensions, authorities remain cautious as the security situation in the region continues to evolve.

The Indian government has urged all citizens in Iran to stay in constant touch with the embassy and follow official advisories to ensure their safety during this period of uncertainty.
