Bhubaneswar: Odisha is currently experiencing contrasting weather conditions, with intense heat during the daytime followed by rainfall and thunderstorms in the evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain, lightning, and gusty winds will continue across the state for the next four days.
Meteorological officials said several districts are likely to witness rainfall along with lightning and strong winds on Tuesday, as the ongoing weather system continues to influence atmospheric conditions over the region.
Orange Warning Issued for Northern Odisha
The weather system is expected to have a stronger impact in northern Odisha, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue an Orange Warning for four districts:
- Mayurbhanj
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Keonjhar
Residents in these districts may experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hailstorms in isolated areas. Authorities also warned that gusty winds could reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, which may pose risks to weak structures, roadside trees, and outdoor activities.
Yellow Alert for Several Districts
Apart from the Orange warning, the Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for 17 districts across the state, indicating the possibility of moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds accompanied by rainfall.
The Yellow warning has also been extended for Wednesday, suggesting that similar weather conditions are likely to persist in many parts of Odisha over the next few days.
Weather Activity to Continue Till April 3
According to the forecast, the current spell of thunderstorms and rainfall is expected to continue until April 3. Meteorologists believe the unstable atmospheric conditions are responsible for the frequent development of convective clouds leading to evening showers and thunderstorms.
No Immediate Rise in Temperature
Despite the intense heat during daytime hours, officials said there is no likelihood of a further rise in temperatures across the state until next week due to the ongoing thunderstorm activity and cloud cover.
The rainfall and storm activity are expected to temporarily ease heatwave conditions in several districts, providing some relief from the rising summer temperatures.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning activity, and follow weather advisories issued by the Meteorological Department.
