Salman Khan’s ‘Battle of Galwan’ Renamed ‘Maatrubhoomi’; Actor Shares New Poster

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has revealed a new title for his upcoming war drama, previously known as Battle of Galwan. On Monday, the actor shared a fresh poster on social media announcing the film’s new name — Maatrubhoomi.

Sharing the poster, Salman wrote, “May War Rest In Peace,” along with the hashtag #Maatrubhumi. He also tagged the film’s director Apoorva Lakhia, co-star Chitrangda Singh, and his production banner Salman Khan Films.

New Poster Revealed

The poster features Salman Khan in a battle-worn look, bloodied and injured while stopping a pole wrapped with barbed wire from striking him. The film’s new title Maatrubhoomi is prominently displayed in the image.

Interestingly, the poster does not mention a release date. Earlier promotional material had indicated that the film was scheduled to release on April 10, but the makers have yet to confirm whether the date remains unchanged.

Film Inspired By Galwan Conflict

The film is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, a deadly confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in Eastern Ladakh. The teaser released in December showed Salman playing an Indian Army Colonel leading his soldiers in a close-combat battle against Chinese forces.

The teaser sparked discussion online, particularly a scene where Salman confronts enemy troops while holding a barbed-wire-wrapped pole. Some viewers compared the visual to a famous sequence featuring Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones episode “Battle of the Bastards.”

Salman later responded to criticism about his restrained expression in the teaser, explaining that his character is a senior military officer and that an exaggerated reaction would not fit the role.

Confusion Over Title Change

The sudden announcement of the new title without further explanation left many fans puzzled. Social media users questioned whether the film had officially been renamed or if the new poster hinted at a broader thematic change.

Controversy In Chinese Media

The film had already drawn attention internationally. Chinese state-backed media outlet Global Times recently criticised the project, alleging that it distorts facts about the Galwan clash and could fuel anti-China sentiment.

About ‘Maatrubhoomi’

Produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films and directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Maatrubhoomi portrays the story of an Indian Army officer leading his troops against a much larger enemy force.

The makers say the film aims to present a powerful narrative of courage, sacrifice, and resilience, while also exploring the emotional bonds of family and love amid the realities of war.
