The teaser of Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar, was released on Thursday, giving fans a glimpse of a spooky yet comedic entertainer. The 1-minute-23-second teaser blends horror and humour, showing Akshay’s character cracking jokes even as mysterious supernatural events unfold around him.
The teaser has already sparked excitement online, with many viewers saying it reminds them of the iconic comedy-horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), which also featured the Priyadarshan–Akshay Kumar combination.
Teaser Introduces Haunted Palace Mystery
The teaser begins with a chilling legend about Vadhusur of Mangalpur, a mysterious entity believed to kill anyone who attempts to get married in the area. The story takes a twist when Akshay Kumar’s character inherits a grand palace in the haunted region.
In typical Priyadarshan style, the teaser mixes suspense with comic moments. Akshay’s character initially appears sceptical about the existence of ghosts, but eerie happenings in the palace hint that he might soon change his mind.
Apart from Akshay, the teaser also introduces a strong supporting cast including Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajesh Sharma and the late Asrani.
Fans Compare It to Bhool Bhulaiyaa
Shortly after the teaser dropped, fans flooded social media with reactions praising Akshay Kumar’s comic timing. Many viewers drew comparisons with the cult comedy-horror Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which also showcased the actor in a memorable role.
Some fans commented that the teaser felt like a spiritual continuation of the earlier film’s humour and style. Others expressed excitement about the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, calling it a “guaranteed entertainer.”
Notably, Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar did not return for the sequels Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which were directed by Anees Bazmee and starred Kartik Aaryan.
Priyadarshan–Akshay Reunion After Many Hits
The film marks the reunion of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar, who previously collaborated on several successful comedies such as Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), De Dana Dan (2009) and Khatta Meetha (2010).
The story of Bhooth Bangla has been written by Aakash Kaushik, while the screenplay is penned by Priyadarshan, Rohan Shankar and Abilash Nair. Dialogues are written by Rohan Shankar and the music for the film has been composed by Pritam.
The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on April 10.
Priyadarshan’s Upcoming Thriller
Apart from Bhooth Bangla, Priyadarshan is also directing a thriller titled Haiwaan starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The film is a remake of the 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam, which starred Mohanlal and Samuthirakani.
The shooting of Haiwaan was completed in December 2025, and the film also features Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar. Its release date is yet to be announced.
