The Odisha government on Thursday declared the Hindi feature film Godaan tax-free across the State, underscoring its commitment to promoting socially meaningful and value-based cinema. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after he attended the premiere screening of the film.
Describing Godaan as a family-centric film rooted in strong social and moral values, the Chief Minister said the movie reflects the core principles of Sanatan Dharma while addressing ethical and cultural concerns relevant to modern society. He noted that the film highlights the importance of healthy relationships between parents and children and encourages moral responsibility among viewers.
Cinema as a Tool for Social Awareness
Emphasising the powerful influence of cinema on public consciousness, CM Majhi said films like Godaan play a vital role in spreading social awareness and strengthening cultural understanding. He added that meaningful storytelling can positively shape attitudes, particularly among the younger generation, by reinforcing values such as compassion, responsibility, and respect for tradition.
“After watching the premiere of Godaan, I felt the film deserves to be tax-free across Odisha. Cinema has the power to guide society in the right direction,” the Chief Minister said.
Cow Research Centre Announced
During the event, CM Majhi also announced that the State government would soon establish a Cow Research Centre in Odisha. The proposed centre will focus on research, conservation, and awareness related to indigenous cattle breeds, as well as the promotion of traditional practices associated with them.
The initiative, he said, aligns with the government’s broader vision of preserving cultural heritage while supporting sustainable and traditional knowledge systems.
Call for Public Support
Urging families and young audiences to watch the film together, the Chief Minister appealed for public support for cinema that upholds cultural ethos and ethical values. He expressed confidence that Godaan would resonate with audiences across the State and receive widespread appreciation for its message-driven narrative.
