New Rules Take Effect Across India: Changes in FASTag, Banking Charges, LPG Prices and Fuel Rates

New Delhi: A series of important policy and price revisions came into effect across India on Sunday, bringing changes that will directly impact daily expenses, banking transactions, fuel usage and digital payments. The updates span multiple sectors, including FASTag regulations, banking charges, LPG cylinder pricing and fuel rates, influencing household budgets and routine financial planning.

FASTag Rules Relaxed for Private Vehicles

In a major relief for motorists, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has scrapped the requirement for mandatory post-issuance KYC verification for private vehicle FASTags. Under the revised rule, newly activated FASTags will remain valid without additional KYC checks, easing congestion at toll plazas and simplifying compliance for vehicle owners.

Banking Changes: SBI Revises IMPS Charges

The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a revision in IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) transaction charges, effective February 15. While the hike is marginal, customers using IMPS for instant fund transfers may notice slightly higher charges depending on the transaction amount. Customers are advised to check updated fee structures to avoid surprises.

Additionally, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks will remain closed for 10 days in February, including weekends and regional holidays. Customers are encouraged to plan essential banking activities in advance.

LPG Cylinder Prices Updated

Oil marketing companies revised LPG prices as part of their monthly pricing exercise. Commercial LPG cylinders have become costlier by ₹49, impacting restaurants, hotels and small businesses. However, there has been no change in domestic LPG cylinder prices, offering some relief to households.

Possible Changes in Fuel and ATF Prices

Price revisions for CNG, PNG and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) are also expected. A reduction in ATF prices could lower airline operating costs, potentially making air travel more affordable in the coming weeks. Fuel prices continue to be reviewed regularly based on global market trends.

Impact on Household Budgets

Apart from fuel and banking updates, changes related to tax norms, cigarette and tobacco pricing, and credit card usage rules may also affect personal spending and monthly expenses. Together, these revisions reflect a mix of administrative easing and cost adjustments that will shape consumer behaviour in the short term.
