Ikkis Box Office Collection Day 1: Sriram Raghavan’s War Drama Beats Expectations with Strong Opening

Sriram Raghavan’s much-anticipated war drama Ikkis has delivered a pleasant surprise at the box office, defying early trade predictions and holding its ground despite stiff competition from Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster Dhurandhar. On its opening day, Ikkis collected an impressive ₹7 crore net in India, nearly three times higher than what trade analysts had projected ahead of its release.

The film, starring Agastya Nanda in the lead role, hit theatres on January 1 across approximately 4,000 screens nationwide. Originally slated for a December 25 release, Ikkis was postponed just a week before its premiere, raising concerns about its box office prospects. Adding to the challenge was the continued dominance of Dhurandhar, which has been enjoying a dream run and posted a massive ₹15 crore collection on the same day.

Strong Word of Mouth Drives Growth

Despite these odds, Ikkis managed to carve out space for itself, largely driven by positive word of mouth. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened with a modest 12 per cent occupancy during morning shows. However, the momentum picked up significantly as the day progressed, with occupancy rising to 35 per cent in the afternoon and peaking at around 47 per cent during evening shows.

This sharp upward trend in footfall reflects growing audience interest and indicates that the film connected well with viewers, particularly urban audiences and fans of content-driven cinema. Trade experts believe such growth is crucial for Ikkis as it heads into an extended opening weekend.

Trade Predictions Fall Short

Prior to release, Ikkis was expected to open in the range of ₹2 to ₹2.5 crore net, with many in the trade anticipating that Dhurandhar would overshadow it completely. While Ranveer Singh’s film continues to dominate the box office, the fact that Ikkis avoided being wiped out by its momentum is being seen as an encouraging sign.

Industry observers note that for a war drama with relatively understated promotions, a ₹7 crore opening is a solid start. The film’s performance over the weekend will be critical in determining whether it can sustain this momentum and build on its moderate but promising opening base.

Outlook for the Weekend

With positive audience feedback and rising occupancy levels, Ikkis is now expected to witness further growth over the coming days. If the word of mouth remains strong, the film could register healthy numbers over the extended weekend, helping it find stability amid fierce box office competition.

All eyes are now on how Ikkis performs in the next few days and whether it can convert early appreciation into consistent box office returns.
