In a major move to enhance passenger convenience, Indian Railways has revised the reservation chart preparation timeline, allowing travellers to check their ticket status much earlier than before. The decision is expected to significantly reduce last-minute uncertainty, particularly for passengers on waiting lists.
Earlier, the first reservation chart was prepared just four hours before a train’s departure, often leaving passengers anxious about their travel plans until the final moments. Under the revised system, passengers will now be able to know whether their tickets are confirmed, RAC or waiting-listed up to 10 hours before departure, making journey planning more predictable and stress-free.
New Chart Preparation Schedule
According to fresh guidelines issued by the Railway Board, the first reservation chart will be prepared 10 hours prior to departure for trains scheduled between 2:01 pm and 11:59 pm, as well as for those departing between 12:00 midnight and 5:00 am. This change will benefit a large number of long-distance travellers by offering earlier clarity on ticket status.
Easier Planning for Passengers
Railway officials said the move was aimed at easing stress for passengers, especially those travelling from remote or rural areas to catch long-distance trains. With early access to reservation status, travellers can better plan accommodation, arrange connecting transport or consider alternative travel options if tickets remain unconfirmed.
Officials from the Railway Ministry told India Today that advance chart preparation would help ensure smoother and more organised journey planning for passengers.
Immediate Implementation Nationwide
The Railway Board has instructed all zonal divisions to implement the revised reservation chart preparation schedule with immediate effect.
By offering greater transparency and reducing uncertainty around ticket confirmation, Indian Railways aims to further improve the overall travel experience for millions of passengers across the country.
