Jay Dholakia Takes Oath as Nuapada MLA, Strengthens BJP’s Presence in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Jay Dholakia, the newly elected MLA from Nuapada, officially took oath as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday. Speaker Surama Padhy administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader during a formal session at the Assembly.

Dholakia’s oath marks his official entry into the House, reinforcing the BJP’s strength in the state legislature. He won the Nuapada by-election with a massive margin of over 83,000 votes, delivering a decisive victory for the party.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Dholakia’s family members, including his mother and wife, along with several senior BJP leaders who congratulated him on his electoral success.

Massive Victory in Nuapada Bypoll

In the recently concluded by-election, Jay Dholakia secured 1,23,869 votes, outshining his nearest rival, Congress candidate Ghasi Ram Majhi, who garnered 40,121 votes. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Snehangini Chhuria finished third with 38,408 votes, failing to make a significant impact.

The bypoll was conducted following the demise of former BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia earlier this year.

Strong Voter Participation

The Nuapada by-election witnessed an impressive voter turnout of 83.45 percent. Out of 2,54,497 registered voters, a total of 2,12,380 people exercised their franchise, including 1,03,817 men, 1,08,563 women and five transgender voters, across 358 polling stations.

With his induction, Jay Dholakia is expected to bring renewed focus to local issues in Nuapada while boosting the BJP’s legislative influence in Odisha.
