In a unique step to promote hygiene and user participation, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a reward scheme under which commuters can earn a ₹1,000 FASTag recharge for reporting dirty toilets at toll plazas across the country.
The cleanliness drive, part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure better sanitation along national highways, will remain valid till October 31, 2025, according to a statement issued by the NHAI and news agency PTI.
How to Claim ₹1,000 FASTag Reward
To participate, highway users must upload geo-tagged photographs of unclean toilets through the latest version of the ‘Rajmargyatra’ app. Users must also provide key details such as:
-
Name
-
Location
-
Vehicle Registration Number (VRN)
-
Mobile Number
Each verified report will make the corresponding VRN eligible for a ₹1,000 reward, which will be credited as a FASTag recharge to the linked account.
“Each Vehicle Registration Number reporting such cases will be eligible for a reward of ₹1,000 in the form of FASTag recharge,” the official statement clarified.
The NHAI also specified that the reward is non-transferable and cannot be claimed in cash.
Key Terms and Conditions
-
The offer is valid only till October 31, 2025.
-
Each VRN can claim the reward only once during the campaign period.
-
Only toilets constructed, operated, or maintained under NHAI jurisdiction qualify for the reward.
-
Toilets located at fuel stations, dhabas, or other public places not under NHAI’s control are excluded.
-
Each highway toilet facility is eligible for reward consideration only once per day, irrespective of the number of reports submitted.
Clean Highways, Better Experience
The initiative is part of NHAI’s broader Swachhta Pakhwada and Clean Toilets Campaign, aimed at ensuring all highway rest areas and toll plaza facilities meet hygiene standards. By linking the campaign with user incentives, the authority hopes to make commuters active stakeholders in improving sanitation infrastructure.
