Rain and Thunderstorms Likely Over the Next Four Days

According to the forecast, light to moderate rainfall may occur across several parts of Odisha, including northern, eastern and southern districts.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in isolated locations. The unsettled weather is expected to continue over the coming days, although conditions may differ between districts.

Wind speeds could reach 30–40 kmph in affected areas. Residents, commuters and people working outdoors should remain cautious, particularly when thunderstorms develop.

Southern Odisha Coast May Experience Rain and Strong Winds

The Regional Meteorological Centre has also forecast rain and wind along the southern Odisha coast over the next three days.

Coastal areas may experience changing weather conditions, with rainfall and gusty winds affecting outdoor activities and travel in some locations.

People in coastal districts are advised to remain alert to local weather developments and follow official updates before making travel or outdoor plans.

Northeast Monsoon Onset in Focus

The latest forecast comes as the southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from Odisha and conditions become favourable for the onset of the northeast monsoon.

This seasonal transition can coincide with changing rainfall patterns in parts of the country. In Odisha, the current forecast indicates the possibility of rain, thunderstorms and lightning across several districts.

Residents should not assume that conditions will remain dry simply because the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from an area.

Safety Advisory for Residents

In view of the possibility of lightning and gusty winds, residents are advised to take basic safety precautions during adverse weather.

  • Stay indoors when thunderstorms and lightning occur.
  • Avoid open fields, isolated trees and other exposed locations.
  • Keep away from electric poles and overhead power lines.
  • Secure loose outdoor objects that could be displaced by gusty winds.
  • Follow official weather bulletins for district-wise updates.

People travelling or working outdoors should remain particularly cautious during periods of lightning and reduced visibility.

IMD Advises Caution as Weather Conditions Change

With a yellow warning in place for 18 districts, residents across Odisha are advised to remain informed about the latest forecast. Rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds may affect different areas at different times during the coming days.

The RMC’s advisories should be monitored for any changes to the warning period or the districts covered.
