Southwest Monsoon Withdraws Further From Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon has further withdrawn from parts of Odisha, along with the remaining areas of Maharashtra and some parts of Goa, Karnataka and Telangana.

The monsoon withdrawal has also advanced from additional areas of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, indicating the continued retreat of the rainy season across central and eastern India.

Monsoon Withdrawal Reaches Sundargarh and Bargarh

In Odisha, the withdrawal has progressed through more areas, with the latest withdrawal line recorded on October 8 passing through Sundargarh and Bargarh.

The latest position of the Southwest Monsoon withdrawal line extends through Supaul, Ranchi, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bijapur, Hyderabad, Belagavi and Panjim.

The advancing withdrawal indicates that monsoon activity is gradually receding from Odisha and neighbouring regions.

Monsoon Withdrawal Progresses Across India

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Southwest Monsoon began withdrawing from northwest India around September 17.

The withdrawal has since progressed across several parts of central and eastern India. While the normal withdrawal from the southern peninsula generally takes place around October 15, the process varies depending on prevailing weather conditions.

The monsoon is now expected to withdraw from more parts of eastern India, the northern peninsula and northeast India during the next three to four days.

Odisha Moves Towards Post-Monsoon Weather

With the Southwest Monsoon continuing to retreat, Odisha is gradually moving towards the post-monsoon phase. The withdrawal of the monsoon typically brings a reduction in widespread rainfall activity, although isolated rain or thunderstorms can still occur due to other weather systems.

The further retreat of the monsoon is likely to influence rainfall patterns across Odisha and neighbouring states in the coming days.
