Several parts of northern Odisha remained inundated on Tuesday as continuous heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding across multiple districts, disrupting normal life and leaving hundreds of families affected.
Major rivers, including the Baitarani, Salandi, Jalaka, and Samakoi, continued to flow above their respective danger levels, prompting authorities to closely monitor the evolving flood situation.
Baitarani, Salandi and Jalaka Rivers Cross Danger Levels
The Baitarani River witnessed a sharp rise following incessant rainfall in its catchment areas, causing concern in low-lying regions.
At Akhuapada, the river was flowing at 20.32 metres, significantly above its danger level of 18.33 metres, increasing the risk of flooding in nearby areas.
Similarly, the Salandi River was flowing at 18.70 feet as of 6:00 am, while the Jalaka River at Mathani in Basta crossed its danger mark, recording a water level of 6.51 metres against the danger level of 6.50 metres.
The rising water levels have led authorities to remain on high alert as heavy inflows continue.
Samakoi River Flooding Hits Pallahara Hard
The Samakoi River caused widespread flooding in Pallahara, where rising water submerged roads and disrupted connectivity.
In Kaniha block, nearly six feet of water was reported flowing over the Burukuna road, cutting off access to several villages.
The flooding has displaced around 250 families, forcing many residents to seek shelter in safer locations.
Normal Life Disrupted Across Flood-Hit Areas
The flood situation remained critical across several parts of northern Odisha, with extensive waterlogging affecting villages, agricultural land, and transportation.
Large stretches of low-lying areas remained submerged as overflowing rivers continued to inundate nearby settlements, causing immense hardship for residents.
Local administrations are monitoring vulnerable locations and assessing the situation as water levels remain above the danger mark in several river systems.
