Odisha On High Alert Over Fear Of Illegal Infiltration Through Bengal Border, Coastal Routes

Amid an intensified nationwide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, Odisha has been placed on high alert over concerns of possible infiltration through the West Bengal border and coastal routes.

Security agencies and state police have significantly increased surveillance in border and coastal districts following intelligence inputs suggesting that illegal immigrants entering through West Bengal could attempt to move into Odisha.

Surveillance Intensified In Border And Coastal Districts

The state government has reportedly directed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and remain vigilant in sensitive regions.

Border districts such as:

  • Balasore
  • Mayurbhanj

are considered particularly vulnerable due to their proximity to West Bengal.

Meanwhile, coastal areas of:

  • Kendrapara

have also emerged as areas of concern because of possible infiltration through sea routes and weak coastal entry points.

Strict Vigil In Sensitive Areas

Sources said security agencies are closely monitoring:

  • Transport hubs
  • Rented accommodations
  • Suspicious movements in vulnerable areas

Authorities have also intensified verification drives following intelligence reports regarding possible movement of infiltrators towards Odisha.

Officials fear that porous borders and unnoticed coastal channels could potentially be exploited for illegal entry into the state.

Government Warns Of Strict Action

Last year, several suspected illegal immigrants were identified and deported from Odisha after verification operations carried out by authorities.

The Odisha government has reiterated that strict action will continue against foreign nationals residing in the state without valid documents.

Prithviraj Harichandan had earlier stated that illegal infiltrators would not be spared and action would be taken as per law.

Nationwide Crackdown Continues

The development comes amid intensified nationwide efforts to identify, verify and deport illegal foreign nationals residing in different parts of India.

Security agencies across multiple states have stepped up coordination and monitoring as part of the ongoing crackdown.
