Odisha Vigilance Raids RWSS Assistant Engineer Over Disproportionate Assets Allegations

BERHAMPUR: In a major crackdown on alleged corruption, the Odisha Vigilance department on Wednesday launched simultaneous raids at seven distinct locations associated with Malaya Kumar Nayak, an Assistant Engineer of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) wing. Nayak, currently posted in the Kolnara Block of Rayagada district, has come under the scanner following serious allegations of accumulating disproportionate assets vastly exceeding his known sources of income.

The coordinated operation was executed following search warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur. To ensure a thorough investigation, a massive team spearheaded by five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), six Inspectors, and a strong contingent of supporting staff was deployed across multiple locations.

Extensive Searches Underway Across Ganjam and Rayagada Districts

According to official sources within the Vigilance department, the anti-corruption wing is systematically scanning several high-value immovable and movable properties linked to the engineer across both Ganjam and Rayagada districts.

The seven targets currently under intense scrutiny include:

  • A plush triple-storeyed residential building located at Soundarya Nagar, Lochapada in Berhampur.

  • Nayak’s ancestral home situated at Tholanda Bada Danda Sahi, under the Jagannathprasad police limits in Ganjam district.

  • The residences of his close relatives located at Balipindi Sahi and Pankal Sahi in Buguda.

  • His in-laws’ house located at Kamalapur under the Golanthara police jurisdiction near Berhampur.

  • His current rented accommodation situated at Rohit Colony in Rayagada town.

  • His official workspace/office chamber located inside the Kolnara Block office premises.

Investigation Ongoing

Senior Vigilance officials confirmed that the multi-location search operation is still active. The total valuation of the land, buildings, bank deposits, gold, and other luxury assets unearthed during the raids is currently being calculated by financial experts within the department. Further details and an official inventory of the seized assets are awaited as the verification process continues.
