The United States has intensified its military campaign against Iran under Operation Epic Fury, with United States Central Command confirming the deployment of advanced stealth bombers to carry out long-range strikes.
According to CENTCOM, the B-2 Spirit stealth bombers have been tasked with precision operations targeting key elements of Iran’s military infrastructure. Officials stated that the mission is designed not only to neutralise immediate threats but also to weaken Iran’s ability to rebuild strategic defence capabilities in the future.
Military analysts note that the B-2 bombers, known for their stealth technology and long-range strike capability, are among the most sophisticated aircraft in the United States Air Force arsenal and are often deployed for high-value strategic missions.
KC-135 Tanker Crash in Western Iraq
The operation was overshadowed by a deadly aviation incident on March 12 when a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq, killing all six crew members onboard.
CENTCOM confirmed that two aircraft were involved in the incident. While one tanker crashed, the second aircraft managed to land safely. The military command said the accident occurred in friendly airspace and was not caused by hostile or friendly fire.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the crash as officials begin the process of informing the families of the deceased crew members.
Conflicting Claims Over Cause of Crash
The circumstances surrounding the crash have sparked conflicting narratives. Iranian state media and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the tanker was shot down by a missile launched by resistance groups operating in western Iraq.
According to these reports, the aircraft was allegedly targeted while refuelling a fighter jet involved in operations against Iranian interests.
However, US officials have rejected these claims so far, maintaining that there is no evidence of hostile action linked to the crash.
Regional Tensions Continue to Rise
The latest developments come amid escalating tensions involving United States, Israel, and Iran across the West Asian region. The intensified military operations and conflicting claims highlight the growing volatility in the region and the risk of further escalation.
Despite the crash, US officials said the broader air campaign will continue, focusing on identifying imminent threats and weakening Iran’s military network.
